Mid-October is before the autumn colour. Kyoto's maples peak in late November, so expect green to first-turning leaves. Hakone runs a few weeks ahead of the cities because of elevation and is the one place you might catch early colour.

- Use Hakone Tozan Railway/bus based on ryokan location.
- Build a single outward route and return rather than zig-zagging.

Taxi fallback: Ask museum or ryokan staff to call a taxi.
Return to hotel: The Open-Air Museum is one stop from Gora on the Tozan line, so the walk back to Setsugetsuka is short. From the Pola Museum take the bus and confirm the last service at the desk.
